Chris Cribbs' white paper on testing Sector for data transfer is available at

It concludes: "There were some problems that make continuing testing this version unrealistic. You must use gcc v3.4 or greater or you have a 2GB size limit on file you can transfer, which tungsten does not have. Also the software will not compile on 64 bit processors, which rules out other NCSA cluster such as Mercury. I kept running into segmentation faults when trying to stripe the data over multiple servers. The current beta release does not allow you to change the port SECTOR connects on, this problem is to be fixed with the next releases. Despite the limitation with this beta release I am still very excited about this software. My recommendation is to wait until the next release of SECTOR and use it on systems with an update OS and compilers to fully utilize the functionality of this software."
