    • Power & Cooling costs are current set to be equal. Is this true, or can we improve our model?
    • Price per kWh is current set at 5 cents. Should it be 12 cents for Chile? Or something else?
  • Lease (Ticket #960)
    • Double checking: Lease costs for Base Site are covered by Telescope and Site and should be omitted from DM estimates.

• Minimum Spindle Count Requirements (Tickets #942, #943)
  1. Double checking: For the AOS (both at ArchSite and BaseSite), we don't care about spindle count and only want to optimize for lowest $/TB (for both database and file storage at the AOSs).
  2. Double checking: Optimizing I/O rates by ensuring a minimum number of spindles only applies to the CSS database storage (not the CSS file storage).
  3. Double checking: Database sizing is identical for both the ArchCSS and the BaseCSS (specified in Doc 1990).

      • Power costs will certainly be different in La Serena than in Champaign. InfraWG will morph the cost model. Ticket #855.
      • Ron Lambert will provide cost estimates for power in La Serena (today's cost is ~10-12 cents kWh).
    • Power & Cooling costs are current set to be equal. Is this true, or can we improve our model?
      • The consensus is that we do not have a better ratio to use (ratio of cooling costs to power costs), for either the Base Site or the Arch Site. [Note: This is not a closed issue, but 1-to-1 will continue to be our default for now]
  • Lease (Ticket #960)
    • Double checking: Lease costs for Base Site are covered by Telescope and Site and should be omitted from DM estimates.
      • Per Ron Lambert, there are no lease costs associated with the Base Site. Updated ticket #960.

     • [Jacek] Yes, that is the current thinking. I can imagine we may be pressed to cut a release in a short period of time, which will put more pressure on disk I/O for database (especially in final stages, like re-partitioning or building indexes)

     • [Jacek] That is what was discussed, but given there are more I/O intensive activities related to file storage that we originally anticipated, this might require rethinking

  • InfraWG is looking forward to the Tue call, but will assume as a default that 200K SUs is enough.

  • The InfraWG is using a new workflow process for cost sheet tracking/changes, and will publish and review during the next call a new Cost Sheet, Workflow Diagram, Cost Summary Comparisons with Baselines, WBS-to-Cost Sheet mappings diagram after a couple of key (external) data elements are verified.
